Speaking on the Kinda Funny Podcast, Naughty Dog‘s Neil Druckmann acknowledged that fans really want to see The Last of Us Part 3, but wouldn’t be drawn into revealing the name of its next major project outside of The Last of Us Multiplayer.
Druckmann confirmed that the studio has already decide on its next major title, and said that it was chosen based on what the Sony-owned developer was most excited about.
I know fans really want The Last of Us: Part 3, I hear about it all the time[…]. The decision has already been made. I can’t say what it is[…]we picked the thing we were most excited for.
It was previously reported that The Last of Us Part 3 is actually in development at Naughty Dog, and Druckmann himself has said that he feels there’s more story to tell in regards to the franchise itself. A separate report also claimed that The Last of Us Part 3 is being positioned for a PS5 launch, but also has PS6 in mind.
