Perhaps unsurprisingly, Final Fantasy XVI debuted at number one in the UK boxed game sales, and is comfortably the fifth biggest launch for physical games in the UK for the year so far.
The likes of Tears Of The Kingdom, Hogwarts Legacy, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Resident Evil 4 Remake all stand in front of Square Enix’s latest mainline Final Fantasy, but what’s perhaps most interesting is the difference between XVI’s launch, and the launch of Final Fantasy XV back in 2016.
When it comes to boxed sales, Final Fantasy XV beat out XVI’s launch by 74%.
In seven years since the release of XV, we’ve seen a much bigger side of the sales switch to digital, though it’s also to do with the fact that XV was available on multiple platforms at launch.
Square Enix is also having another good week outside of the top ten, as its January release Forspoken has once again moved up the board, as sales increased 46% from last week, as it now sits at number 12.
