Rumors fired up early last year that Firesprite Studios had picked up the rights to develop a new Twisted Metal game, and now fresh evidence has reared its head suggesting the game may also be VR compatible and launch for a day one PC and PlayStation release.
A thread on ResetEra has compiled a bunch of details supporting the idea that Firesprite is working on Twisted Metal, which we’ve included below.
First up, there’s a job listing that calls for a Principle Physics Programmer to join development of a ‘new, AAA, Unreal 5 multiplayer action game.’ It also mentions ‘experience developing gameplay for VR would be useful,’ and says that the project will blend ‘gameplay mechanics’ and ‘deeply embedding storytelling elements into a unique universe.’
Another listing reveals the following:
As a Lead AI Programmer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining state-of-the art AI behavioural systems and overall NPC Gameplay architecture. You will be working on next gen platforms and in areas such as but not limited to – AI, NPC behaviours, pathfinding, navigation, decision trees, choice systems.
Meanwhile, there;s another job listing for a multiplayer game that calls for a Principle Designer, again mentioning a ‘AAA, Unreal 5 multiplayer action game.’ Crucially, the description mentions “blending genre transcending gameplay mechanics around vehicular and on foot combat.” Sounds like Twisted Metal to us!
As for the mention of arriving day one for PC, there’s this little tidbit:
Knowledge of range of game services such as Steam and PSN back ends.
There’s no official confirmation that a new Twisted Metal game is in the works, but evidence is certainly mounting to support the idea.
