Let’s Sing 2023 Eurovision PS5 review. It should come as no surprise to many (and particularly my nearest and dearest) that I can sing Eurovision 2023 winner Loreen’s song “Euphoria” about as well as the decidedly croaky sounding cat in my neighbourhood. Thankfully as it turns out, many of my friends are just as vocally abysmal as me and I don’t know about you, but I’ll take solace wherever I can find it.

I’m getting ahead of myself though. Let’s Sing 2023 Eurovision, like all of the Let’s Sing titles before it and even akin to Sony’s own seemingly forgotten SingStar games, follows a familiar blueprint – players get to pick up a pair of mics and sing/bleat/cry/scream their hearts out to a range of songs both that are recent and, well, not so recent.

Unambitiously More Of The Same But Still A Riot When Enjoyed With Friends

In fact that blueprint is so familiar that those who are initiated with Let’s Sing 2022, 2021 or indeed any of its recent entries in the last few years, will find that Let’s Sing 2023 Eurovision is essentially the same game – albeit with a chunk of additional content thrown in. To be clear – as we haven’t reviewed Let’s Sing 2023 on the site before (the game released late last year), this review will be a hybrid review of sorts that will take in both the original game (Let’s Sing 2023) and the Eurovision DLC (which is sold separately at this stage).

So from the get-go I should probably reinforce the point that if you own Let’s Sing 2022 or 2021, then Let’s Sing 2023 is really more of the same just with a different selection of songs, the same modes and a slightly rejigged presentation. Zero points for ambition or innovation then. More egregiously, Let’s Sing 2023 actually punishes you in a sense for purchasing any of the previous games in the series. This is because any additional songs purchased for previous versions of the game cannot be transferred over, which sucks bigly considering how much of Let’s Sing 2023 is simply copy and pasted from the previous year’s instalment.

Even worse still, many of the songs that feature in the purchasable DLC packs for Let’s Sing 2023 are also pulled from early Let’s Sing titles. Therefore, if you’ve owned previous games and there are songs there that you really enjoy and it isn’t part of the default track listing for Let’s Sing 2023, then you’re essentially going to have to buy it all over again to gain access to it. So yeah, that’s not great.

Assuming you’ve never played a Let’s Sing game however, or at the very least, you’ve not been around in the franchise for the past five years or so, then Let’s Sing 2023 does what it says on the tin admirably and will duly provide many, many hours of frenzied yelling for your friends and family. From the off, if you don’t happen to purchase a version of the game that comes with a pair of mics, you’ll be happy to know that your trusty smartphone can pull double duty as a yelling stick, thanks in no small part to a handy app that allows you to do this with relatively little effort.

As to the game modes, Let’s Sing 2023 boasts a variety of different modes from last year’s game that covers the broad spectrum of single and multiplayer modes. Mercifully (and this is something I’ve used and will continue to use a lot), one of those modes is a practice sorta deal that allows you to rehearse the songs on your lonesome and away from the cringing necks and laughing mouths of others. It’s super useful to say the least.

Ultimately though, it’s really in the competitive local multiplayer ‘Let’s Party’ mode that Let’s Sing 2023 is at its best. Permitting up to eight players sharing two mics that are passed around the group, Let’s Party provides a random cycle of different cycles and songs for players to tackle and is arguably the freshest and best way to experience Let’s Sing 2023. Should you tire of that in the long-term, then some of the other modes included in Let’s Sing 2023, such as Feat. which has you matching voices with featured artists or a local friend, or World Contest, which essentially has you singing your way up the global online leaderboard, both provide ample additional reasons to pick up the mic.

At its core, Let’s Sing 2023 remains a fundamentally solid and enjoyable experience too. There’s practically no latency on the mics (either hardware or software) and the tone of your voice and accuracy of your lyrics really seems to have a direct effect on how the game scores your performance. It also helps that Let’s Sing 2023’s pick up and play karaoke sensibilities also means that just about anybody can get a game going and start having fun – which is great since Let’s Sing 2023 is ideally the sort of thing you would want to break out for more social occasions more often than not.

As with all previous Let’s Sing games, your mileage will ultimately depend on how much you like the songs and Let’s Sing 2023’s thirty or so songs are certainly scattershot in terms of era, genre and quality. Spanning everything from Queen and Billie Eilish, to Carl Douglas and Glass Animals, it’s clear that Let’s Sing 2023 will have something for everyone, but perhaps not quite enough for some. Obviously you can purchase extra songs from the song store but just bear in mind that many of those songs are re-releases from previous games, and when Let’s Sing 2024 inevitably makes its bow later this year, you won’t be able to take them with you.

As to the Eurovision DLC pack, rather than consisting exclusively of songs that were performed at this year’s ceremony itself, the expansion instead boasts just five songs from previous Eurovision events which in all honesty seems a little on the thin side – though the budget price (£3.99/$3ish) makes it relatively easy to swallow.

Chances are I’m not going to improve my take on “Euphoria” anytime soon, but Let’s Sing 2023 makes it effortless to keep on trying and embarrass myself in front of my friends and family. And this is the central issue – if you’re new to the Let’s Sing then feel free to add a point or so to the final score as it remains a whole heap of fun and is both handsomely made and presented. However if you’re a tenured veteran of the series, then the lack of innovation and the pay-walling of songs that you’ve already paid for before will likely grate more than the worst sonic assaults the Eurovision Song Contest has conjured thus far.
