Sony interactive Entertainment has claimed that PSVR 2 sold around 600,000 units during its first six weeks on sale, putting it ahead of the original PSVR at this early stage in the device’s lifecycle.
The format holder revealed during a business webcast that the PSVR sold 8% fewer units during its first six weeks than its successor, and while it’s still early days yet, it seems PSVR 2 is at least off to a promising start. Analysts had previously pegged the device at 270,000 units sold by the end of March 2023, so it’s done better than predicted .
Sony’s figures come just a few days after Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SIE, told Famitsu magazine that he believed it was ‘a little early to judge [PSVR 2’s] popularity.’
The PSVR 2 was released in February 2023 and launched with a series of first and third-party games, some of which were upgrades to existing PSVR games. You can read our full PSVR 2 review to find out more.
