Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that the price of the PS5 will be increased in Europe, Japan and parts of North America due to ‘high global inflation rates.’
The price increase is effective immediately and applies to bot the PS5 Standard Edition and the PS5 Digital Edition. The price will remain unchanged in the United States, but Sony has said that the console may yet see a price hike in EMEA, APAC and LATAM regions.
Jim Ryan, President and CEO of SIE, commented:
The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing. We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries.
Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, as well as Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States.
