As we draw ever closer to the end of another generation, the hushed whispers of new consoles (particularly PS5 for us) turn into a mad babbling as every little shred of potential information is analyzed, speculated upon, and argued about.
The latest nugget of new information comes from Bink Video, a video format found in thousands of video games over many formats.
A recent changelog from Bink seems relatively humdrum until you get near the end of it and it bears its juicy speculation fruit.
‘Added a new secret NDA-ed platform’ is the key set of words we’re looking at here.
Now, a certain forum got its jimmies in a twist, speculating that this means we’re getting PS5 in 18 months. While it’s certainly not impossible there’s very little here that suggests it is the case. Especially as it could be any number of options.
We recently learned Google is taking another stab at getting into the games industry, so it could just as easily be its new box. Microsoft recently revealed it’s already hard at work on its next console too, while Sony is still quite tight-lipped about its future plans.
So the good news is there’s a new console on the horizon, but the bad news is it’s probably not the PS5…yet.
