Modus Games and Secret Base have staple-gunned a July 27, 2023 release date to retro-flavoured brawler Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons on PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons takes place in New York City in an undisclosed period in the 1990s, picking up in the aftermath of a nuclear war that has decimated the Big Apple. As such, its residents take to the streets to fight for survival, with the city a breeding ground for crime and rioting. Step forward Billy and Jimmy Lee, who take it upon themselves to clean up the streets.
Featuring a retro-inspired aesthetic that recalls the Double Dragon series’ roots, Rise of the Dragons features enhanced pixel art visuals and updated-yet-faithful appearances for returning heroes and villains alike. The game also features a host of unlockable bonuses, adjustable difficulty settings, plus the option of a permadeath and infinite modes.
Payers will hoover up cash by executing a Special KO on enemies, with health-giving boosts obtained by performing Crowd Control moves, which are able to KO multiple foes simultaneously. You can spend your cash on powerful upgrades at the end of each stage, or save it for a rainy day.
Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons launches on July 27, 2023.
