Penny’s Big Breakaway is a new 3D platformer from Evening Star, a new studio formed from the team who developed Sonic Mania for SEGA.
Christian Whitehead, Dave Padilla, Tom Fry, Hunter Bridges and Brad Flick all worked on Sonic Mania, the 2D title that for many fans was an excellent return to the glory days of 2D Sonic.
Now however the team is going into the third dimension with their latest title, Penny’s Big Breakaway, which sees you take on the role of yo-yo tricking Penny, who’ll need to use her incredible yo-yo skills and the help of her sentient yo-yo named Yo-Yo to platform over and around an ever-pursuing penguin army.
Penny’s Big Breakaway was revealed during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct event, showcasing the colourful and tight platforming that’ll be required of players to get through each stage.
For now, all we know about the release date is that it’s set to arrive sometime in 2024, though hopefully we’ll be hearing more soon.
