Diablo IV requires players to start a brand new character to tackle Season 1 and its accompanying Battle Pass, and players – particularly newcomers to the series – are flocking to Twitter to express their frustration at the news.
Blizzard mouthpiece Rod Fergusson revealed the following on Twitter:
To take part in the seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey, and battle pass, you will need to create a new seasonal character. Playing campaign with seasonal character (if you so desire or need to finish) will also progress the season journey and battle pass.
Diablo IV is the first entry in the series to feature a Battle Pass, although the process of how the seasons function is similar to previous entries in the series. However, newcomers to the franchise won’t necessarily be aware of this, hence the uproar.
One Twitter user, @putbackthestars, had the following to say:
I’m a new Diablo player and a new dad. I only have maybe an hour a day to game, if that. So my current character is only level 11. You’re saying I should basically not even play this game then right?
In response, Fergusson commented:
No, you should definitely play. The new season mechanics/features come after the campaign is complete so you should focus on completing it now so you can just skip it when the season starts since you only ever need to complete the campaign once.
Diablo IV was released on June 6, 2023 for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
