Dead Cells will launch natively on PS5 this Thursday, June 29, 2023, developer Motion Twin and Evil Empire announced.
The news came through Motion Twin’s Twitter account, and immediately we saw how Evil Empire is taking advantage of the current-gen console’s features.
“Use haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, audio feedback and lighting to take your runs to the next level.” The best part of the news however is that anyone who already owns Dead Cells on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
A big question left unanswered however is whether or not this new PS5 version will come with cross-save support, and if players will be able to carry-over all their time spent in the PS4 version of the game.
In one sense, it would be the ultimate rouge-lite move to make everyone start over. In common sense, this new version should have some form of cross-save. It’s just disheartening for anyone who’s spent hours in a game to see all their progress lost to play the version that’ll work best for the console you’re already playing it on.
All in all, it’s a good time to be a Dead Cells fan. The game just hit 10 million copies sold, and Evil Empire shows no sign of slowing down with more content, hopefully just as excellent as its most recent Castlevania collaboration.
