SEGA is doing well as it keeps expanding the Sonic franchise in new ways with titles like Sonic Frontiers and the recently announced Sonic Superstars.
So well in fact that it has spurned SEGA to return to some of its other classic franchises, and most recently creative officer for Sonic at SEGA, Takashi Iizuka was aspect specifically if there’s any chance we’ll see the return of either the Nights or Burning Rangers franchises.
“I can’t say yes to anything right now. These days I’m the creative officer for Sonic the Hedgehog, so I’m totally focused on that side of the business. So I can’t really speak for anyone else, but Sonic Team in Japan has been ramping up and hiring lots of people recently – they have more people than ever.
So there may be some future where you’ll be hearing about these kinds of titles.”
It’s not the confirmation fans would want to see, but it is good to at least have it implied that SEGA is looking at its classic roster of IP and realizing which ones might be good to bring back for fans old and new today.
